Maruichi Leavitt has adopted the Japanese 5S methodology as a way to organize and manage our workspace more efficiently. This methodology uses a list of five Japanese words which each start with the letter "s" when translated into English; hence, the "5S" designation. We've implemented this methodology to improve efficiency and flow by eliminating waste. "5S" not only improves workflow and sets standardization, it helps to promote a safer working environment.
1956
Leavitt Tube began manufacturing mechanical steel tube with one slitter and two tube mills. Over the next 25 years, Leavitt would expand with the introduction of two structural tube mills capable of production up to 4" x 4" x .250" wall.
1981
The W 80 mill was added to Leavitt Tube's growing steel tubular products list. The mill is capable of producing HSS up to 10" x 10" x .500" wall, equivalent rectangles and rounds up to 12.75".
2008
In 2008, Maruichi Steel Tube, headquartered in Osaka, Japan acquired Leavitt Tube and expanded their global footprint. Since the acquisition, more than $84 million dollars has been invested in new mills, products and equipment all in a responsible manner. This includes standard pipe, automotive tube, testing equipment, mill and an investment in our tube people.
2018
In 2018, a brand new #7 mechanical tube mill was brought online. Replacing two legacy mills, the #7 mill rolls .75" sq up through 1.5" sq and corresponding rectangles, along with .84" up through 1.66".
